Trees Sprout with  Misfit STEAM Thinking

Harnessing the imagination and rooted in STEAM thinking, Community Literacy Trees grow in an imaginary Misfit Sock Forest, which embraces all things "misfit" and celebrates diversity, acceptance and empowerment.  The handmade trees transform the wall of a classroom, library, or community building and offer an unique opportunity for creative exploration, self-discovery and community building.

The trees take shape using recycled or "misfit" materials: a cardboard box, a plastic bottle, a old book, a misfit sock. Through STEAM projects, students can explore science, engineering and math concepts in the Misfit Sock Forest, while using art and journaling as a catalyst for conversation and action on the importance of seeing possibility in anything marginalized, celebrating differences and feeling empowered.
